GLG has a vast knowledge of researching and establishing boundaries for a wide range of projects such as the Detroit River Tunnel Crossing, the Detroit Riverfront Reclamation Project, and County Remonumentation.
Great Lakes Geomatics has been active in the Macomb County and Wayne County Remonumentation programs for over 21 years.
The remonumentation programs are state funded projects that work to re-establish, re-trace, and perpetuate monuments placed during the original survey of Michigan. Our team has been responsible for re-establishing over 500 monuments used in the creation of county lines, township lines, section lines, private claim lines, subdivisions, and parcel boundaries.
We have also been involved in the state program of establishing State Plane Coordinates on remonumented section corners for future use by surveyors, contractors, public entities, private entities, and others.
Great Lakes Geomatics was responsible for establishing the right-of-way for 22 blocks as well as providing a topographic and an extensive sub-surface utility survey for the +/- 114 acres located between Jefferson Avenue and the Detroit River for the purpose of the waterfront reclamation development and the proposed casino development.
Our surveyors also prepared ALTA Surveys for each of the 22 blocks within the project limits and prepared legal descriptions and various exhibits to aid in the acquisition of each property. In addition, our team worked closely with the title companies to verify existing legal descriptions, easements, vacatings, and other pertinent boundary documents.
Our team was responsible for establishing all boundaries for Rail and City held properties lying between the International Boundary and Railroad mile post 2.02 (+/- 250′ west of 22nd Street) covering approximately 2.5 miles and totaling +/- 25 acres.
Upon completion of the initial boundary survey, our crew prepared the documents and drawings necessary to complete the land transfers between the City of Detroit, Conrail, and DRTP. Because the preservation of public utility locations within the project site was very important, we performed all field and office research necessary in order to provide precise easement descriptions and exhibits for the various utility providers. Also, we prepared ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys for an additional 30 privately owned properties for acquisition by DRTP.
